Joe Stamm with the sad eyes.

(Post written about 2 years ago)

It had been about six months since my last show at the 5-Star Dive Bar, Ryder’s Saloon. That event was my favorite party in Minnesota. Northwoods Jam back in August. Life has changed a lot since then, IYKYK. I needed this. And ‘this’ … this is a Joe Stamm concert.

I learned about Joe Stamm one night while Youtube rabbit hole of independent country music that led me to a live set, including my first and still favorite song of his. “Empty Places” told the story of a Vietnam Vet and his family. I was hooked. Then I met then him at Ryders soon after for a solo acoustic performance. Amazing work.

This was going to be cathartic.

I arrived at Ryders waaay early (of course). Immediately saw Steve, the owner, outside. “I saw you post (on FB) that you didn’t have a ticket, and were going to sweet talk your way in.” he said to me. “You better take amazing pictures.” Of course. What else would I do? lol

Inside to that bar. “I’ll have a double Knob Creek 9, neat,” as I offered a $20. “Its on us Chris. You know better.” I drank free all night. The prodigal son had returned!

Outside, Josh and Andrea had brought there camper. The Best Westerman (Matt’s Prius) was parked nearby. Did some pregame tailgating with a bunch of local concert fans – a Stammily reunion if you will. I needed this.
